From the Foc-Foc car park, a track and a path follow the rim of the Enclos Fouqué, with constant views of the Piton de la Fournaise cone, to Piton de Bert. This viewpoint is one of the best places to watch lava flows during eruptions, and a superb sunrise spot.

Above 2,200 m it is cold before dawn: a warm jacket, a head torch and water are essential. The way out is gently downhill, so save some energy for the return. During eruptions the car park fills up fast and access may be restricted by the prefecture.
