At Manapany-les-Bains, a barrier of volcanic rock shelters a seawater pool from the swell, lined with screw pines and lawns. It is one of the few sheltered swimming spots on the south coast and a family favourite.
The pool is not always supervised: follow the flags and the town hall's notices, which may ban swimming in heavy swell or pollution. The rocks are slippery, so water shoes help. Never cross the rock barrier towards the open sea.
