The easiest gateway into the roadless Mafate cirque. Over the Col des Bœufs pass, then down to the hamlet of La Nouvelle, the “capital” of Mafate, through the tamarind forest.

The paid, guarded car park at Col des Bœufs (forest road from Salazie) fills up fast: arrive early. You can stay overnight in a gîte at La Nouvelle.
